  concert, recordings and Pinetop Perkins

The Band (The Last Waltz).

Michael Moravek played a memorable gig at Quenchers, Chicago Feb. 20 backed by his friends The Great Crusades who call the Windy City their home. Brian Krumm [guitar], Brian Hunt [bass], Chris Moder [drums] and last but not least Brian Leach [keys], who co-won a Grammy a week earlier for the production of Pinetop Perkins' last album . Sad to hear the news about Mr. Perkins passing away March 21 at the age of 97. He played his boogie-woogie piano in Muddy Waters’s last great band and was among the last surviving members of the first generation of Delta bluesmen. He also played piano with Muddy Waters at The Band's legendary Last Waltz.
During his stay Moravek recorded a bunch of songs for a solo-album with Brian Leach. He was backed in the studio by the four of The Great Crusades plus Stephen Wright who showed up to play trumpet and flugelhorn on two of the recordings.

No Sleep 'Til Illinois - Planeausters in the USA

Planeausters are heading for a short tour-trip to the USA, more precisely: to the 21st state of Illinois. They will play three concerts together with their friends The Great Crusades from Chicago. The first one will take place on April 30 in the Windy City at The Bottom Lounge. The club is famous for its assortment of independent music groups. It is a place for bands like The Great Crusades, Cursive, Dillinger 4, Shellac, Propaghandi and Glasvegas and others. Planeausters will add their presence and music to that. The club is based in West Lake St. under the tracks of Chicago Elevated. There will be four bands that night on stage of The Bottom Lounge: The Norwood Park All-Stars, a group from the Chicago Norcore scene with a good shot of 80’s punk bearing strong glam rock guitars and vocals. The Great Crusades are signed to a European label and also from Chicago with a singer who's got the tubercular pipes of Tom Waits and Axl Roses's love child. Followed by VendooZa, also from Chicago, with influences in R&B.

The second concert will be at Mike ‘N Molly’s in Champaign, Illinois with The Great Crusades. And the triple will be closed by supporting The Great Crusades at The Stagger Inn Again in Edwardsville, the third oldest city in Illinois. That means, it was originally incorporated in 1818.

PLANEAUSTERS
Planeausters was formed in 1998. Releasing their first single “Insect Songs” and having their debut appearances in Berlin and Paris, the band soon established their own view of independent music philosophy. Apart from commercial music business they found their freedom in form and content on the small label Tank Records. Their debut album “How I Lost My Fear of Flying” soon became a classic, containing songs like “Heroine”, “In A Sleep” and “Picking Flowers On The Moon”.  The following album “Flying Home”, that was reissued in 2007, shows them keen on making new experiences with songs like “I Gotta Run, Babe (Robert Hanssen)” and metaphoric anti-love song “Fascist Heart” which is more related to a timeless film noire style than to anything that is en vogue. Their third album “Ruby Light Shine” that especially elated the French music press contains the great “Something Beautiful”, “Free Like Houdini” and “Electric Star”.  French magazine CROSSROADS ranks the PLANEAUSTERS among bands like dEUs, Dead Man Ray or Venus as one of the best and most interesting current European independent groups. The self-sufficient three-man band PLANEAUSTERS stand out with a weightless Independent Rock. The sometimes rough and archaic arrangements create a very own hypnotic tension.

Ihr Debutalbum „How I Lost My Fear of Flying“ wurde vor allem mit Songs wie „Heroine”, “In A Sleep” und “Picking Flowers On The Moon” zum Klassiker.
